Do you use your basement as an extra bedroom area for guests or as the entertainment center of the house to kick back and watch movies or cheer on your favorite teams?
Basements don’t have to be dark, dingy, forgotten areas of the home. They can be fun and functional. But they also have to be up to code.
No one wants to think about having to evacuate their home in the event of a fire or other emergency. But it's a good idea to have a plan in mind. According to the International Residential Code, all habitable spaces, including basements, are required to have an emergency escape and rescue opening. That means an egress window system is needed.
At Ohio Basement Authority, we offer two types of egress window systems that will enhance your home’s safety as well as its appearance. Both feature a large window with energy-efficient double-pane glass. Instead of having to struggle to push the window up like traditional windows, the window we install also hinges on one side to swing open, thus allowing an easy escape.
Each system also has a lightly colored window well with steps to further aid in safely escaping the home. The Grip/Step system features a unique “Grip/Step” design with a handle and gusseted step. The egress system accommodates a greater height range.
Both systems also are covered by translucent window well lids that not only help more natural light to enter the basement, they also keep leaves, debris, precipitation and pests out of the window well.
All of the pieces of these systems are durable and will not rust, rot or need to be replaced.
