After living in their house for 17 years, homeowners in Londonderry, OH, started to notice some glaring problems in their basement. Along with evidence of seeping water and water damage, two of the foundation walls appeared to be cracking and tilting inward.
These issues greatly concerned the homeowners who plan to live in the house for many more years. They wanted to make sure their living environment would be a safe and healthy one. They researched how to best address these problems, and also discussed their concerns with trusted friends. The homeowners were motivated to contact Ohio Basement Authority from these word of mouth recommendations, and they were eager to meet with one of our inspectors to learn more about how we could help them.
The inspector then visited the owners to complete a thorough evaluation of the problematic basement. He then presented the owners with some of our reliable basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions.
One of our crews then repaired the basement by first addressing the problematic foundation walls. Several IntelliBrace beams were placed on the wall that had more severe cracking and bowing. These steel beams are fastened and secured to the floor joists. The beams are then plumbed against the wall as level as possible, and the bottom of the beams are anchored to the floor. These heavy-duty beams are zinc-plated beams so they are protected from corrosion and damage, unlike the other metal and wooden supports that were failing to stabilize the walls. Another unique feature with this system is the ability to tighten the beams during dry seasons to potentially improve and straighten the wall over time.
Carbon Fiber supports were placed on the other wall that was not as severe. These heavy-duty supports tightly adhere to the wall, and they also permanently stabilize the wall where they were installed, and they prevent any further cracking or inward bowing. They also can be easily concealed by paint or drywall.
The basement was then waterproofed with the BasementGutter interior drainage system and SafeDri sump pump. The sub-floor BasementGutter system intercepts any seeping water from the walls and floor, and this water is then directed to the SafeDri. The SafeDri features two powerful pumps inside the liner, as well as an external backup battery to ensure the system will always operate to pump water out of the basement. We installed the SafeDri inside the larger SafeDri Triple liner to allow for easy future upgrades.
A dehumidifier also was installed to clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, and help reduce odors and the potential for mold growth. The dehumidifier also self-drains so there are no buckets to empty like with conventional dehumidifiers. We placed the dehumidifier next to the SafeDri so it could directly drain any water into the sump pump system.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing their home will be a safe and structurally sound living environment they will be able to enjoy for many years because of these reliable solutions.
