Stabilizing and Protecting Foundation Walls in Baltimore, OH, with IntelliBrace Beams

Monday, August 21st, 2017 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

When homeowners in Baltimore, OH, moved into their house shortly after it was built 42 years ago, they knew it would be their forever home. That is why maintaining the health and safety of their living environment is very important to them.

When they recently began projects to re-finish the basement, the owners came across some concerning issues. Some of the mortar around one of the foundation walls was cracking and separating from the rest of the wall. Upon removing some of the drywall from this wall, they discovered some cracks in the foundation wall, as well.

The homeowners had the house built to last, so they wanted to ensure the structure’s integrity and stability. After seeing some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, the homeowners were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with Inspector John Dean who evaluated the condition of the wall. John then presented the owners with one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

Solution

Foreman Jose De Jesus Tellez Ortiz then led his crew in installing several IntelliBrace beams on this foundation wall. These beams may appear to be similar to other support beams, but this system is superior in many ways. Unlike typical static support beams, IntelliBrace beams are designed to help improve wall condition.

These steel beams are fastened and secured to the floor joists. The beams are then plumbed against the wall as level as possible, and the bottom of the beams are anchored to the floor. These heavy-duty beams are zinc-plated so they are protected from corrosion and damage. Another unique feature with this system is the ability to tighten the beams by adjusting the large-diameter bolt at the top of the wall to potentially improve and straighten the wall over time.

The homeowners were pleased these trustworthy repairs were completed so they can now have a safe and structurally sound forever home.
