While they have lived in their house for 40 years, it wasn’t until the last several years that homeowners in Piketon, OH, noticed issues in their basement were getting worse. Several areas of the foundation walls were cracking, and one wall in particular was visibly tilting inward.
This latter wall was a major cause for concern, as the home owners worried it could completely fail and affect the stability and safety of the rest of the structure. The home was built almost 150 years ago, so it’s natural to see signs of foundation failure, but it is crucial to address walls in such disrepair.
The homeowners began to research how to fix these issues, and they came across information about Ohio Basement Authority online. They then contacted us to learn more about how we could help them stabilize their home. They met with Inspector Jeff Floit who completed a thorough evaluation of the foundation walls. He then suggested some of our reliable foundation repair methods.
Foreman Michael Gramly then led his crew in completing these various projects.
The first was what is known as a dig and push method. This involves excavating the ground outside the wall, digging down to the footing. The wall is then pushed back to as level as possible, and the dirt is replaced.
We also added interior solutions to further reinforce this wall – several IntelliBrace beams and one Wall Anchor. Both systems permanently stabilize the wall and offer the opportunity to straighten it. The IntelliBrace beams are anchored to the floor and floor joists, and the heavy-duty bolt holding it to the floor joist can be adjusted for wall improvement. The Wall Anchor was installed near the stairs, and it too can be tightened and adjusted for wall improvement.
We stabilized the other foundation walls with Carbon Fiber supports. These heavy-duty, low profile supports tightly adhere to the walls to hold them in their current positions. Along with permanently reinforcing these walls, the Carbon Fiber supports also help protect the walls from any further cracking or inward bowing.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy solutions have helped them create a safe and stable forever home.
