A homeowner in Pataskala, OH, lived in his house for 15 years, and he was ready to sell the home.
He put the house on the market, but after one year, he still hadn’t sold the house. He wondered why this could be, and a recent discovery on the property gave him the answer. Some sections of the downspouts outside the house were disconnected near the foundation walls. This caused draining water to not properly discharge, and some of the water seeped inside the porous block foundation walls and into the basement.
While this did not cause significant damage, the homeowner wanted to have this issue fixed so he could sell the house. After he saw some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, and he was eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help him. He met with Inspector Drew Black, who evaluated the condition of the failing exterior drainage system, as well as the leaking basement.
Drew presented the homeowner with several waterproofing options. One was upgrading the exterior drainage system.
One of our crews then used triple wall polyurethane pipe that is 3” in diameter. This type of durable pipe will not split, break or crack, and it is more impact resistant. These lines were buried underground for safety and aesthetic purposes, and they were directed to drain at the edge of the property.
YardWell outlets also were used to conceal the ends of the lines in the yard. This attachment, which prevents clogging from leaves and debris, can easily be removed for cleaning. Its green color allows the outlet to blend into the lawn, and it is durable enough to withstand lawnmower traffic.
The homeowner was happy these repairs were completed to enhance the health, safety and value of the home.
