Moving into a new home is exciting, but it is not without its challenges. This is especially true when there are problems with the health and structural integrity of the home.
As new homeowners began to move into their house in Portsmouth, OH, they noticed some glaring issues in the basement. These included cracks and tilting on one wall, as well as obvious evidence of leaking water that was damaging the walls and floor.
The homeowners plan to use the basement for storage, but they didn’t want to have to worry about their belongings being damaged by seeping, potentially flooding water. They began to research how to best address these issues, and they came across information about Ohio Basement Authority on Angie’s List.
They decided to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with one of our inspectors who visited the home. After completing a thorough evaluation of the basement, our inspector then presented the homeowners with some of our trustworthy basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions.
The homeowners were then excited to have one of our crews improve the condition of their basement. The crew installed the BasementGutter interior drainage system, two SafeDri sump pumps, and several IntelliBrace beams in the basement, as well as two FreezeGuards, a YardWell outlet, and new drainage lines outside the house.
The problematic foundation wall was first stabilized with several IntelliBrace beams. These heavy-duty beams are zinc-plated so they are protected from corrosion and damage. Another unique feature with this system is the ability to tighten the beams by adjusting the large-diameter bolt at the top of the wall to potentially improve and straighten the wall over time.
The basement was then waterproofed with the BasementGutter system. The basement’s perimeter is excavated to allow this drainage system to sit in the sub-floor and atop the footing. BasementGutter is specially designed to accept seeping water from the walls and floor. This water is then directed to one of the two SafeDri Battery Backup Systems installed in the large basement. Along with two powerful pumps inside the liner, the SafeDri’s external backup battery ensures the system’s continued operation even during power outages. The SafeDri pumps seeping water out of the basement and away from the home’s foundation.
Additionally, FreezeGuards were attached to the exterior sump pump discharge lines to allow this draining water to continue to exit from the pipes even if the pipes freeze or becomes blocked. A YardWell outlet also was attached to one of the discharge lines to camouflage the end of this line in the yard.
The homeowners can rest easier knowing these reliable solutions will keep their home safe and dry for many years to come.
