Crawl Space Encapsulation and Insulation Enhances the Health and Value of a Home in Marysville, OH

Challenge

Homeowners in Marysville, OH, moved into their house not long after it was built 20 years ago. Recently, however, they decided it was time to move on and sell the house. Before putting the house on the market, the owners knew they needed to address several improvement and repair projects. This included sprucing up the partial crawl space.

While cleaning out the basement, the owners noticed a musty smell coming from the adjacent crawl space. After removing some insulation, they also found some discoloration on the block walls in the crawl space. The owner started to fog the basement to kill any possible mold and mildew, but they also wanted to see what options they had for sealing the crawl space.

As the owners began to research the best fix for the crawl space, they found information about Ohio Basement Authority online. They were eager to contact us to meet with one of our inspectors and learn more about how we could help them. Inspector Brendan Kent visited the home and completed a thorough evaluation in the crawl space. After discussing the homeowners’ repair goals with them, Brendan recommended some of our trusted crawl space repair solutions.

Solution

One of our crews, led by Foreman Rich Pomales, then transformed the crawl space by encapsulating and insulating the area.

First, insulation panels were placed on the crawl space floor to insulate the floors and enhance the durability of the encapsulation material.

The crawl space was then fully encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. This thick and durable liner, which is similar to swimming pool liner, completely isolates the home from the earth. CrawlSeal also acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it further helps insulate the crawl space.

Additionally, ExTremeBloc panels were placed on the crawl space walls to further assist with insulation.

This project not only accomplished the owners’ goals of isolating the home from the earth and saving energy, it also enhanced the health, appearance and value of the home. The homeowners are pleased these beneficial projects were completed so the next owners will have a healthy living environment.
