Waterproofing Upgrades will Keep a Leaking Basement Dry in Orient, OH

Saturday, November 25th, 2017 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

Since moving into their house several years ago, homeowners in Orient, OH, have been dealing with a constantly leaking basement. Water seeped inside several areas every time it rained, leaving behind puddles on the floor as well as visible damage to the walls and floor. The existing sump pump system also was failing to keep up with this water.

Tired of dealing with these problems, the homeowners wanted to have them fixed for good. They plan to live in the house for many years, and they didn’t want to have to worry about their basement being waterlogged every time Mother Nature decided to open the skies.

After hearing about Ohio Basement Authority, the owners were eager to contact us to meet with one of our inspectors and learn more about how we could help them. They met with Inspector Francis Purcell who evaluated the condition of the basement. Francis then discussed his findings with the homeowners, as well as their repair goals such as keeping the basement dry all the time. Francis then recommended some of our trustworthy repair solutions.

Solution

One of our crews, led by Foreman Milton Castro, then waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter interior drainage system, SafeDri Sump Pump, dehumidifier, and exterior FreezeGuard attachments.

The basement’s perimeter was excavated in order to properly install the BasementGutter system. BasementGutter is specially designed to sit in the sub-floor and atop the footing to intercept seeping water from the walls and floor.

This water is then directed to the new SafeDri Battery Backup system that was installed to replace the older, failing sump pump. Equipped with two powerful pumps inside the liner, as well as an external backup battery, the SafeDri will always work to pump water out of the basement.

The compact, yet powerful and energy-efficient dehumidifier also was installed to improve the air quality in the home. This unit cleans and filters the air, controls moisture and humidity, and reduces odors and the potential for mold growth.

Additionally, a FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line. This special attachment allows water being pumped out of the basement to continue to escape from the discharge line even if the line freezes or becomes blocked.

The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these reliable products have helped them create a safe and healthy living environment that will stay dry for many years to come.
