Fixing and Protecting a Failing Foundation Wall in Pickerington, OH

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

They have lived in their house for 20 years, but it wasn’t until the last year that homeowners in Pickerington, OH, started to notice potential problems with one of their foundation walls. There was a horizontal crack along this wall that only seemed to widen and worsen over time. The top portion of the wall above the crack also appeared to be slightly tilting inward.

These signs of foundation failure worried the homeowners, as they were concerned with the structural integrity of their home. They intend to live in the house for many years to come, so having a safe and stable living environment is very important to them.

The homeowners wanted to address these problems before any serious damage resulted. After seeing Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, they were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with Inspector Drew Black who evaluated the condition of the wall. After discussing his findings with the owners, as well as their repair goals, Drew recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

One of our crews then installed a total of nine Carbon Fiber supports along the length of the foundation wall. These heavy-duty supports not only permanently reinforce the wall where they are installed, they also prevent the wall from any additional cracking or inward bowing.

The first step in installing these supports is sanding down sections of the wall where the strips will be installed. This ensures the wall will be clean so the strips can properly adhere to the wall. Holes are then knocked into the wall, usually near the bottom of the wall. Pieces of rebar, or reinforcing steel rods, are then placed inside the holes to help anchor the wall. The holes are then sealed with cement.

Strong epoxy resin is then applied to the wall and the Carbon Fiber strips. Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on the top of the wall to anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Another coat of epoxy resin is applied to the straps to seal them against the wall.

While the dark appearance of the Carbon Fiber supports may not be aesthetically pleasing, these durable supports can easily be concealed with paint, drywall or other basement finishing materials.

The homeowners are happy this trustworthy repair method was used to help them create a safe and stable living environment that they will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
