After living in her house for almost 25 years, a homeowner in Delaware, OH, was ready to sell the home. Before doing so, she knew she needed to address some ongoing problems in the basement. Several areas of the foundation walls were showing signs of failure in the form of various cracks, as well as slight inward tilting. These issues seemed to have worsened over time, and the homeowner was concerned with structural stability and the resale value of the house.
After learning about Ohio Basement Authority from her realtor, the owner was eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help her. She met with Inspector John Dean who completed a thorough evaluation of the problematic foundation. John then recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.
Foreman Jose de Jesus Tellez Ortiz and his crew then permanently stabilized and reinforced the walls with several Carbon Fiber supports.
In order to ensure a clean workspace, as well as the proper adhesion of the Carbon Fiber strips to the walls, the walls were sanded down in the areas where the strips were to be installed. Holes were then knocked into the bottom courses of the block walls and reinforcing steel, or rebar, was placed inside. This helps to anchor the walls. The holes are then filled with cement.
Epoxy resin is then applied to the walls and the Carbon Fiber strips. Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on the top of the walls to anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Another coat of epoxy resin is applied to the straps to seal them against the walls.
The Carbon Fiber supports may not appear aesthetically pleasing, these durable supports can easily be concealed with paint, drywall or other basement finishing materials.
The longtime homeowner and new homeowner were pleased this reliable repair method was installed to help create a safe and stable living environment.
