Stabilizing a Retaining Wall with Wall Anchors in Lancaster, OH

Monday, April 16th, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

A homeowner in Lancaster, OH, has lived in his house since it was built 18 years ago. During the last few years, he has noticed an exterior retaining wall showing signs of failure and movement. The retaining walls condition appeared to be worsening with time, and the owner was concerned that the wall would eventually fall in.

The owner plans to live in the house in definitely, so he wanted to make sure the retaining wall would not completely cave in. As he began to research potential repairs, the owner found Ohio Basement Authority’s website. He was then motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help him. He met with one of our inspectors who assessed the condition of the retaining wall and then recommended the perfect repair solution.

Solution

One of our crews, led by Ryan Toledo, then installed two Wall Anchors on the retaining wall. These heavy-duty anchors permanently stabilize the wall and offer the best opportunity to straighten the wall because of their unique design.

First, a trench was created far enough away from the retaining wall in order to install the earth anchors that are part of the system. Small holes are then drilled through the retaining wall. Galvanized steel rods are driven out and earth anchors are installed and attached to the rods. Once the earth anchors are attached to the exterior portions of the rods, wall plates are attached to seat the earth anchors.

The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing this reliable repair solution has helped him create a safer living environment.
