Waterproofing a Leaking Basement in Lancaster, OH

Thursday, April 26th, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

After constantly fighting with water leaking into their basement, homeowners in Lancaster, OH, decided enough was enough. The problem only seemed to be worsening, with water seeping inside through the walls and floor, and the owners could no longer keep up with sweeping the water to the sump pump every time it rained.

The owners knew they needed to address this issue once and for all. After seeing Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, they were motivated to contact us for further guidance. They met with Inspector Francis Purcell who completed a thorough evaluation of the problematic basement. Francis then presented the homeowners with some of our reliable basement waterproofing solutions to keep their home dry.

Foreman Jose De Jesus Tellez Ortiz and his crew then installed these solutions that included BasementGutter and the SafeDri and SafeDri Triple sump pumps.

The basement’s perimeter was excavated to properly install the BasementGutter drainage system. BasementGutter is designed to sit in this trench in the sub-floor and atop the footing so it can accept seeping water from the walls and floor. This water is then directed to one of the two sump pumps installed in the large basement. Sections of drainage pipe were placed in front of the walk-out access door, and these sections were tied into the surrounding BasementGutter.

An SafeDri was placed in one corner, and a SafeDri Triple was installed on the other side of the basement. The SafeDri features two pumps inside the liner, and the SafeDri Triple has three pumps. Each system also has an external backup battery which ensures the systems will always operate to pump water out of the basement even during power outages.

Additionally, FreezeGuards were attached to the exterior sump pump discharge lines to prevent flooding from frozen or blocked discharge lines. These lines also were tied into new downspout conductor lines that were installed on the property. The lines were placed in the ground and directed far enough away from the home’s foundation.

The homeowners can rest easier knowing these trustworthy repairs will help keep their home dry, even during the heaviest of rainstorms, for years to come.
