Homeowners in Pickerington, OH, have lived in their house since it was built 30 years ago. While several areas of their walls are not easy to see because of stored and stacked items, the owners recently started to notice some spots of the walls had various cracks. Other areas also appeared to be slightly tilting inward.
The owners were concerned by these signs of foundation wall failure, and they didn’t want to see these problems worsen. During their research into repair options, the owners found Ohio Basement Authority’s website. Eager to learn more about how we could help them, the owners were motivated to contact us.
They then met with one of our inspectors who assessed the condition of the walls, including measuring them for movement. The walls were not in a severe state of disrepair, but there indeed was evidence of failure in cracking and inward tilting. Our inspector then presented the owners with one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Milton Castro, then permanently reinforced the walls with several Carbon Fiber supports. These durable supports permanently reinforce the foundation walls where they are installed, and they help protect the walls from any further cracking or inward bowing.
In order to install these supports, the crew first sands down sections of the walls where the strips will be installed. This ensures the wall will be clean so the Carbon Fiber strips can properly adhere to the walls. Holes are then knocked into the bottom courses of the concrete blocks along the path of the strips. Pieces of reinforcing steel, or rebar, are placed inside the holes to help anchor the walls. The holes are then sealed with concrete.
Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on top of the wall, also to help anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Strong epoxy resin is then applied to the wall and the Carbon Fiber strips. Once the strips are in place, another coat of epoxy resin is applied to seal them against the wall.
The darkly-colored supports may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but their low profile and durability allows them to be easily covered with finishing materials like paint, drywall or paneling.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy repairs have helped them create a safe and stable living environment.
