Properly Waterproofing an Older Home in Reynoldsburg, OH

Wednesday, August 1st, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Homeowners inherited a house in Reynoldsburg, OH, after a recent death in the family. They debated about whether to sell the home or move in, and they chose the latter. But before making the home their own, the owners knew they needed to address some much-needed improvement projects around the 118-year-old house.

Water was visibly leaking into the basement through the walls and floor, leaving puddles and damage behind. Concerned about the health and safety of their family, the owners wanted to be sure to nip these issues in the bud.

As they began to research potential repairs, the owners found Ohio Basement Authority’s website. They were then motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. The owners met with Inspector Zeke Fowler who completed a thorough evaluation of the older home and its problematic basement. Zeke then presented the owners with some of our reliable basement waterproofing solutions.

Foreman Martimiano Alonso and his crew then worked to transform the basement.

The perimeter was excavated in order to properly install the BasementGutter system. BasementGutter is specially designed to sit in the sub-floor and atop the footing to accept seeping water from the walls and floor.

Any water intercepted from the BasementGutter is then directed to drain into the SafeDri Battery Backup System. This sump pump system is equipped with two powerful pumps inside its liner, along with an external backup battery that ensures the system’s operation even during power outages. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line to prevent flooding from frozen or blocked lines, and a YardWell outlet was used to conceal the end of the discharge line in the yard.

Additionally, a dehumidifier was installed to clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, and reduce odors and the potential for mold growth. The unsightly walls also were covered with the CrawlSeal wall system. Along with improving the appearance of the walls, this material helps with waterproofing by directing any seeping water from the walls down to the BasementGutter system in the floor.

The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy solutions have helped them create a safer and healthier living environment for their family.
