A homeowner in Hilliard, OH, has lived in her house since it was built almost 30 years ago. Recently, she began to notice some structural problems in the basement. One of the foundation walls was showing signs of failure in the form of various cracks that were widening and getting worse. Some sections of the wall also appeared to be slightly tilting inward.
The owner was worried about the safety and structural stability of her home, and she wanted to have these problems fixed once and for all. She began to research possible repairs, and she found information about Ohio Basement Authority online. This motivated her to contact us to learn more about how we could help her.
The owner met with Inspector Francis Purcell who assessed the condition of the foundation wall. Francis then presented the owner with one of our reliable foundation repair solutions.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Ben O’Bryant, then permanently stabilized the problematic foundation wall with several Carbon Fiber supports. These durable supports hold the wall in its current position and prevent any further cracking or inward movement.
Sections of the wall where the straps will be installed are first sanded down. This ensures the wall will be clean so the strips can properly adhere to the wall. Holes are then knocked into the wall, usually near the bottom of the wall or third course of the concrete block. Pieces of rebar, also known as reinforcing steel, are placed inside the holes to help anchor the wall. The holes are then sealed with concrete.
Strong epoxy resin is applied to the wall and the Carbon Fiber strips. Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on the top of the wall to anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Another coat of epoxy resin is applied to the straps to seal them against the wall.
The dark appearance of the Carbon Fiber supports may not be aesthetically pleasing, but these durable, low-profile supports can easily be concealed with paint, drywall or paneling for a more finished look.
The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing this trustworthy solution has helped her create a safer living environment.
