Waterproofing and Stabilizing a Home in Grove City, OH

Monday, August 20th, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

During the five years that they have lived in their house, homeowners in Grove City, OH, have been dealing with a constantly leaking basement. The owners would like to eventually finish the basement, but they didn’t want to worry about always having to clean up messes from seeping water.

After the owners found out about Ohio Basement Authority from a trusted friend, they wanted to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. One of our inspectors visited to complete a thorough evaluation of the home. Along with visible evidence of water intrusion and damage, our inspector noticed the existing sump pump was failing to keep up, and some areas of the foundation walls were showing signs of failure in the form of various cracks and inward tilting. After discussing the owners’ goals with a repair project, our inspector then recommended the perfect waterproofing and foundation repair solutions.

Solution

Foreman Martimiano Alonso and his crew then waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter interior drainage system and SafeDri sump pump, and stabilized the problematic foundation walls with Carbon Fiber supports.

The first project was to install the Carbon Fiber supports. These heavy-duty supports firmly adhere to the foundation walls to permanently stabilize them and hold them in their current positions. They also protect the walls from any further cracking or bowing, and they can easily be covered with basement finishing materials.

The basement’s perimeter was then excavated to install BasementGutter in the sub-floor and atop the footing. Any seeping water from the walls and floor is intercepted by BasementGutter and then directed to drain into the SafeDri sump pump system. This system features two powerful pumps inside its liner, as well as an exterior backup battery to ensure its continued operation. This system, which was installed using the larger SafeDri Triple liner for easy future upgrades, then pumps the water out of the basement and away from the home.

The owners are pleased to now have a safe, healthy and dry basement because of these reliable repair solutions.
