Keeping a Basement Dry and Stable in Logan, OH

Thursday, September 13th, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

A homeowner in Logan, OH, who maintains the house next door for his elderly mother-in-law wanted to make sure the structure would be a safe and healthy living environment. He recently noticed water leaked into the basement, as well as cracks along one of the foundation walls, and he wanted to have these issues remedied as soon as possible.

The owner saw some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads and he was motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help him. He met with Inspector Drew Black who visited to complete a thorough evaluation of the more than 100-year-old home.

Drew found visible evidence of water intrusion and damage along the floor and walls, which could ruin the many stored items in the basement. He also noticed one of the foundation walls was showing signs of failure in the form of various cracks as well as slight inward tilting.

Drew then presented the owner with some of our reliable basement waterproofing and foundation repair solutions.

Foreman Rich Pomales and his crew then worked to improve the condition of the basement.

They waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter drainage system, SafeDri sump pump and exterior FreezeGuard attachment. The BasementGutter interior drainage system sits in the sub-floor to accept seeping water from the walls and floor. Any water intercepted by the BasementGutter system is then directed to the SafeDri Battery Backup System to be pumped out of the house. This system features two powerful pumps inside its liner, along with an external backup battery. A FreezeGuard also was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line to prevent flooding if the line freezes or becomes blocked.

Several Carbon Fiber supports also were placed on the problematic foundation wall. These durable supports firmly adhere to the wall to permanently reinforce the wall and hold it in its current position, as well as prevent any further cracking or inward bowing.

The owner is happy the home will now be a safe and stable living environment for his family.
