Our Solutions Improve the Health of a Wet, Moldy Basement in Newcomerstown, OH

Tuesday, December 18th, 2018 by Holly Richards-Purpura

After living in their house for many years, homeowners in Newcomerstown, OH, began to seriously consider the health of their living environment. They knew water leaked into their basement, and mold also was becoming a serious issue.

The owners discussed their concerns with their friends, but they were unsure of how to tackle these problems. One trusted friend confidently recommended contacting Ohio Basement Authority after he described his remarkable experience with us on his basement waterproofing project.

Eager to learn more about how we could help them, the homeowners reached out to us and then met with Inspector Jeff Floit. Jeff evaluated the condition of the unhealthy, unsafe, and unsightly basement. The owners told him they wanted to improve their quality of life, restore their peace of mind, and maintain the home’s property value. Jeff then presented them with some of our reliable basement waterproofing solutions.

Before we installed these solutions, Jeff also solicited the help of one of our trustworthy affiliate companies. A team from PuroClean first treated and removed mold in the home.

Then, Foreman Jose DeJesus Tellez Ortiz and his crew waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter interior drainage system, a SafeDri sump pump, and a dehumidifier.

The basement’s perimeter was first excavated to properly install BasementGutter, which is specially designed to sit in the sub-floor and atop the footer. That way, this system can accept seeping water from the walls and floor. Weep holes also were drilled into the bottom of the walls to allow this seeping or built-up water to escape and flow into the BasementGutter system.

Any water intercepted by BasementGutter is then directed to drain into a SafeDri sump pump. This system has a powerful 1/3 hp Zoeller® pump inside its liner that pumps water out of the home.

Additionally, a dehumidifier also was installed and directed to self-drain into the BasementGutter system. The dehumidifier is a powerful, yet energy-efficient unit that cleans and filters the air, controls moisture and humidity, and reduces odors and the potential for mold growth.

The homeowners are pleased to now have a safer and healthier living environment because of these trustworthy solutions.
