Carbon Fiber Supports Stabilize a Home For Sale in New Albany, OH

Challenge

After living in her house for several years, a homeowner in New Albany, OH, was ready to sell the home. As she prepared to put the house on the market, she had a home inspection and engineer’s report completed. Something that came up during this process was cracking along the wall that needed to be repaired.

The owner’s realtor has worked with Ohio Basement Authority on other repair projects, so she was confident in referring our company to this owner. The owner was eager to contact us and learn more about how we could help her. One of our inspectors visited to take a look at the problematic foundation wall. While it indeed showed signs of failure in the form of various cracks, the wall was not in a severe state of disrepair. Our inspector then recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

Solution

Foreman Levi Fletcher and his crew then installed several Carbon Fiber supports on the wall. These sturdy supports permanently stabilize the wall and it in its current position. They also prevent any further cracking or bowing in the areas where they are installed.

To install these supports, the areas of the wall where they will be placed are sanded down. This ensures the wall will be clean and that the Carbon Fiber supports will firmly adhere to it. Then, holes are knocked into the bottom courses of block along the path of the Carbon Fiber supports. Pieces of rebar, or reinforcing steel, are placed in these holes to anchor the bottom of the wall. The holes are then filled and patched with cement.

Once this cement is dry, strong epoxy resin is then applied to the wall and the Carbon Fiber strips. Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on the top of the wall to anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Another coat of epoxy resin is applied to the straps to seal them against the wall.

These supports are dark in color, but their low profile allows them to easily be concealed by paint or other basement finishing materials.

The owner now has peace of mind knowing the home will be a safe and stable living environment for the next owners because of this trustworthy repair project.
