After living for 25 years in their house in the German Village area of Columbus, OH, homeowners began to notice some areas of their floors were sagging. Concerned with their home's structural integrity, they contacted Ohio Basement Authority. Inspector Matt Wojciechowski performed a thorough inspection throughout the 125-year-old home.
First, he recommended various waterproofing solutions because the homeowners were also concerned with puddles of water they saw in their basement. They plan to move forward with these projects in the near future, but wanted to concentrate on a more pressing issue.
Matt inspected the home's crawl space and found failing insulation and sagging floor joists. The homeowners didn't know the crawl space was in such bad shape, but Matt suggested permanent solutions that would transform this unhealthy area of the home.
Per Matt's recommendation, one of our expert crews completely encapsulated the crawl space in CrawlSeal liner. This thick material, similar to a pool liner, permanently isolates the home from the earth and keeps mold, insects and dirt out of the crawl space. Drainage matting was placed on the crawl space floor underneath the CrawlSeal liner to enhance durability and puncture resistance.
Once the older fiberglass insulation was removed, ExTremeBloc panels were installed on the walls. These rigid water-resistant panels are energy-efficient ways to insulate the crawl space.
Two IntelliJack Crawl Space Stabilizers were also installed. These heavy-duty steel jacks permanently stabilize the sagging floor joists or beams, and can lift the above floors back to level.
The homeowners are excited to now have a healthier crawl space, which also translates into a healthier home.
