A homeowner in Springfield, OH, was worried the health of her house could also be affecting her health. She has COPD, a lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe, and she was concerned the presence of mold would only make her symptoms worse.
She previously spent a considerable amount of money to have a sump pump and drainage system installed in the home's crawl space, but she was not confident that it was working properly.
She wanted to make sure she had a reliable system in the crawl space, so she contacted Ohio Basement Authority. One of our inspectors performed a thorough evaluation at the 56-year-old house, and proposed several permanent crawl space repair methods.
To address the issues of standing water and failing drainage and sump pump system, we replaced the ineffective equipment with the patented CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri Pro sump pump. If any water seeps into the crawl space, it will be intercepted by the CrawlDrain, drained into the SafeDri Pro and pumped out of and away from the home.
The debris, including broken pipes and failing insulation, was also removed. Drainage matting was then placed on the floor, and the entire crawl space was encapsulated in heavy-duty CrawlSeal liner. This heavy, puncture-resistant liner completely isolates the crawl space from the earth, and acts as a moisture and vapor barrier. Vent covers were also installed on the home's exterior to seal the previously open vents and prevent outside air from entering the crawl space.
The high-performance dehumidifier was also installed to filter and purify the air. As soon as the crew was finished with this project, the homeowner said she could already tell a difference in the air quality.
She was excited to have these permanent solutions installed in her home so that it will be a healthier living environment for many years to come!
