Challenge

They were aware of some cracks in one of their foundation walls when they moved into their house 15 years ago, but homeowners in Ashley, OH, were beginning to grow concerned with the structural stability of this wall. They noticed this problematic wall was beginning to bow inward, and they were worried this wall movement would result in further damage and safety issues.

Cracking and bowing in a foundation wall are common signs of wall failure. While there may be a number of causes, one of the most common sources of wall failure is hydrostatic pressure. As the exterior soil becomes saturated with water, it exerts pressure on the wall. This continuous force makes the wall crack and move, and can even allow water to seep inside.

With the goal of permanently stabilizing their forever home, the owners contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company on websites like Home Advisor. One of our certified inspectors who specializes in foundation repair visited the home and completed a thorough evaluation at the 50-year-old house. He then presented the owners with several repair options that would ensure the home's structural integrity.

Solution

Per our inspector's recommendations, one of our expert crews installed a total of eight IntelliBrace beams on the cracking and bowing foundation wall. These durable, zinc-plated steel beams will not corrode like other steel beams. They stabilize the wall in its current position, and can be tightened for potential wall improvement.

The crew also completed another project to permanently stabilize the home. The cracking and bowing wall in the basement was underneath a sunroom addition attached to a back deck. In order to stabilize these structures, 10 Helical Deck Piers were installed underneath these sections.

After the crew excavated the area around the sunroom and deck, the piers were advanced deep into the soil. Deck posts and brackets were connected to the piers, and the soil was replaced at the end of the project. The piers feature corrosion-resistant coating, which guarantee they will last for the life of the structure they are supporting.

The owners were excited these durable permanent foundation repair solutions were installed so they will no longer have to worry about the structural integrity of their home. It will now be a safer and more stable living environment they will be able to enjoy for many more years to come!
