A local family enjoys getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily life to relax and take in the natural surroundings in their log cabin nestled in the quaint southeast Ohio city of Nelsonville. They cherish this time in their home away from home, so having a safe and healthy living environment is very important to them.
Within the last year that they have owned the home, they noticed various issues with the crawl space underneath the home. The floors were cold during the winter due to lack of proper insulation and they previously purchased a portable sump pump to get rid of water that seemed to puddle in the area.
These problems were becoming frustrating nuisances, so the owners researched repair options. They contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning more about our company online, and then one of our inspectors completed a thorough evaluation at the home.
Along with failing insulation and water, our inspector found debris and open vents. All of these issues create an unhealthy crawl space, which in turn affects the health of the rest of the home. Our inspector then presented the homeowners with several options that would correct these issues once and for all.
One of our expert crawl space repair and waterproofing crews, led by Foreman Jose De Jesus Tellez Ortiz, then completely transformed the unhealthy crawl space.
Once the debris and older insulation was removed, the crew encapsulated the crawl space in durable CrawlSeal liner. This thick liner is similar to pool liner. Not only does CrawlSeal completely isolate the home from the earth, it serves as a barrier that prevents moisture and vapors from penetrating. It also helps insulate the crawl space, and instantly brightens the area. CrawlSeal is tough enough to crawl on, so it creates a functional area that could be used for storage.
Spray foam insulation was applied to the rim joists for added insulation and protection, and vent covers were installed on the home’s exterior to seal the crawl space from outside air, pests and precipitation. Now the floor above the crawl space will never be cold, and the owners won’t have to worry about pests and animals in their home.
The portable sump pump was replaced by a reliable system, the SafeDri Pro sump pump. This system fits perfectly with the CrawlSeal liner, and will pump any seeping water out of and away from the crawl space. The sump pump discharge line was tied into a new exterior drainage line that was buried underground.
All of these products have created a safe and dry home, giving the owners peace of mind as they visit their woodland sanctuary.
