CrawlSeal Encapsulation Creates Healthy, Functional Crawl Spaces and Homeowners in Centerburg, OH

Challenge

How would you feel if you just moved into a house, then noticed it was cold and wasting energy in the winter?

Homeowners recently relocated from California to Centerburg, OH. They moved during the fall, so they didn’t notice these issues until the chilly winter months hit. They wanted to address these problems before they got worse and their energy bills became too much to handle.

The owners shopped around for the best solution by obtaining inspections and quotes from various companies. They were not happy with the representative of one company, but they were extremely impressed by and built a great rapport with one of Ohio Basement Authority’s inspectors.

While completing a thorough evaluation of the 20-year-old home, our inspector found two vast crawl spaces underneath the home that were open to the basement. These crawl spaces were full of debris and failing insulation and plastic floor liner. This lack of proper insulation most likely contributed to cold floors and an energy deficiency.

Our inspector presented the homeowners with several options that would correct these issues and create a warmer and healthier home.

Solution

One of our expert crawl space repair crews then completely transformed the nasty crawl spaces. After the debris was removed, the crew re-graded several areas of the crawl space floors that were not level. Thick drainage matting was then placed on the floors to enhance the durability of products that would be installed on top of it.

The crawl spaces were then encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. CrawlSeal is similar to pool liner, and it completely seals the crawl space areas from the earth. CrawlSeal also acts as a barrier for moisture and vapor, and it helps insulate the crawl spaces.

Additional insulation installations included bright ExTremeBloc panels on the crawl space walls, and spray foam insulation in the band joists. CrawlSeal, ExTremeBloc and spray foam all work together to create warmer crawl spaces, which also means a warmer and more energy-efficient home above.

CrawlSeal and ExTremeBloc also brighten the crawl spaces so it is easier to see inside each area. These reliable products also create ideal storage areas.

The homeowners are excited these permanent solutions have helped them create a healthier living environment they will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
