A man in Howard, OH called us about water seepage and black mold in his basement. He had just moved into the home two months prior and had this problem from the start. With plans to turn the space into a man cave, he wanted to waterproof it as soon as possible.
Upon calling Ohio Basement Authority, this customer set up an appointment for a free inspection with one of our inspectors. Our inspector explained our various waterproofing products and how they would work to repair this homeowner's wet basement.
The homeowner chose to have SafeDri Prox with a SafeDri backup, and BasementGutter interior drains installed.
An installation crew first installed SafeDri Prox (a sump pump which can pump up to 2,200 gallons of water per hour). Then, they attached the SafeDri battery backup pumping system, including a charging/control box with alarm and 120-amp, sealed maintenance-free battery.
After that, they removed a small amount of concrete from around the perimeter of the basement to create a space for BasementGutter. BasementGutter is a sub-floor drainage system with holes and a special flange to gather water from the ground and walls. The crew also drilled weep holes in the core of each concrete block; this prevents water from building up behind the wall and allows it to drain into the BasementGutter below. Finally, they placed gravel around the drainage pipe and re-concreted the basement floor in all areas removed.
With the basement newly waterproofed, the homeowner is now free to transform it into the perfect man cave.
