A homeowner in Crestline, OH, discovered a large puddle in his basement after a hard rain. The flooding ruined an area rug, and raised concerns for the rest of the basement. He wanted to use the space for storage and to house his computer, so this was not a good place for water. He contacted Ohio Basement Authority for guidance.
Certified Inspector John Dean visited the home, took a look at the basement, and talked about our waterproofing system.
The homeowner chose to go with many products including FreezeGuard, SafeDri ProX with an SafeDri battery backup, and BasementGutter.
The production crew first installed the SafeDri Prox with the SafeDri battery back-up pumping system. This is a sump pump which can pump up to 2,200 gallons of water per hour. The SafeDri has a 120-amp, maintenance-free battery.
Next, they installed FreezeGuard to give the water from the sump pump a place to go if the discharge line becomes frozen or buried under ice and snow.
After that, they put in BasementGutter sub-floor drainage system under the concrete basement floor. This is a drainage system which collects water from the floor and walls and drains it into the sump pump. They also drilled weep holes in the cement blocks to allow water from behind the walls to drain out.
The homeowner is happy with these waterproofing solutions. He now has a permanently dry, usable basement.
