A home built 81 years ago in Blacklick, OH, had structural issues that were making it difficult for the owners to sell it. There were stair-step cracks in several foundation walls, which is a sign foundation failure. The homeowners heard about Ohio Basement Authority from a previous customer, and they called to set up a free inspection and estimate.
Certified inspector John Dean met with the homeowners to talk about the options they had for repair. He recommended carbon fiber straps and IntelliBrace beams to stabilize and repair the walls.
The homeowners agreed to have these repairs done.
A skilled production crew, led by foreman Rich Pomales, arrived at the scheduled time to install carbon fiber and IntelliBrace.
First, they needed to remove some dry wall to reach the cracking concrete block walls behind it.
Then, they adhered seven carbon fiber straps to the walls. These are composed of a super strong, nearly unbreakable material which prevents walls from shifting further.
Next, they installed four IntelliBrace beams to the walls in worse condition. These are steel beams which are attached to the wall and bolted to the ground. An industrial screw at the top can be torqued over time to reverse the failure, and bring the wall back to its original position.
The current owners are happy with the results, and potential home buyers will be pleased as well.
