After living in their house for several years, homeowners in Marengo, OH, began to notice that they had a leaking basement. Water seemed to be seeping inside near the basement’s corners. Downspout conductor lines happened to be outside these same areas of the basement.
While some downspout conductor lines are on top of the ground, others are directed under the soil to drain water. In either case, the downspout conductor lines usually are not extended far enough away from the house. This allows the water from the gutters and downspouts to drain near the home’s foundation. The water can then find its way through the walls and inside the home.
The homeowners wanted to address this issue before any serious damage occurred. They were motivated to contact Ohio Basement Authority after seeing one of our TV commercials. They met with one of our experienced inspectors, who completed a thorough evaluation of the exterior drainage system.
One of our experienced crews then installed new downspout conductor lines around the property.
We used triple wall polyurethane pipe ranging from 3” to 4” in diameter. Unlike other materials like PVC, ABS or styrene, this type of pipe is more durable. It will not split, break or crack, and it is more impact resistant.
To help minimize the disturbance to the yard and landscaping, some of these exterior drainage lines were tied into each other. Others were extended straight out into the yard. All the piping for the lines was buried underground for safety and to protect the property’s aesthetics.
We also placed YardWell outlets at the ends of these lines that were directed to drain into the yard. This special attachment is designed to flush away leaves and other debris, allowing the drainage channel to remain open. The lid can easily be removed for cleaning. Its green color not only blends into the lawn, it also is durable enough to withstand mower traffic.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing the upgraded exterior drainage system will help keep their home dry for many years to come.
