Repairing Cracking Foundation Walls and Exterior Porch in Thornville, OH

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

Spotting cracks in foundation walls can be very alarming to homeowners. These are often the first visible signs of foundation wall failure or foundation settlement that should not be ignored. The problem will only worsen, and the wall will eventually fail completely and result in safety hazards and costly repairs.

After monitoring interior and exterior cracks on their foundation walls for a few months, homeowners in Thornville, OH, knew they needed to address the problem sooner rather than later. While researching repair options, they came across online information about Ohio Basement Authority and our range of services.

They eagerly contacted us and shortly after met with one of our inspectors who completed a thorough evaluation of the interior and exterior foundation failure.

Solution

Our inspector recommended several reliable repair solutions, and the homeowners were excited for two of our expert crews to permanently address the issues.

First, Michael Gramly led a crew in stabilizing the cracking foundation walls. After excavating the area outside the severely cracking block wall underneath the porch, two Helical Piers were installed. These galvanized steel piers are driven down to competent soil and attached to heavy-duty foundation brackets on the home’s footing. The piers permanently stabilize the foundation, help prevent any further settlement, and offer the best opportunity to lift the wall back to level.

To address the less severely cracking interior wall, another one of our many reliable foundation repair solutions was used. Several Carbon Fiber supports were placed on this wall to reinforce it. The straps also prevent any further cracking or inward bowing, and they can easily be concealed with paint or drywall.

The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these reliable repair solutions have helped them create a safer living environment.
