The health and safety of one’s home often are top priorities for homeowners, and they want to protect these significant investments with the best solutions.
While she rarely, if ever, ventures into the crawl space, a homeowner in Cardington, OH, worried about the condition of this area underneath the house. She questioned what this area looked like, and if what was in the crawl space could potentially affect the home’s health and her well-being.
The homeowner discussed her concerns with a trusted friend, and this friend was happy to refer her to the experts at Ohio Basement Authority based on her remarkable experience with us. The homeowner was eager to contact us, and she met with the same inspector that assisted her friend. John Becker Sr. completed a thorough evaluation of the problematic crawl space, then he recommended some of our reliable repair solutions.
Foreman Jose de Jesus Tellez Ortiz then led his crew in transforming the crawl space. After they arrived to do so, they noticed some of the wooden supports in the crawl space were deteriorating and failing. They took pictures to show the homeowner, and she agreed to add a few structural supports to the project.
The crew then got to work to transform the crawl space, first by waterproofing the area with the CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri Pro sump pump. If any water seeps into the crawl space, it will be intercepted by the CrawlDrain and directed to the SafeDri Pro to be pumped out of the crawl space. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line, and this line was tied into new downspout conductor lines that were installed on the property.
The crawl space was encapsulated with CrawlSeal liner. This thick and durable liner, which is similar to swimming pool liner, completely seals the crawl space from the earth. It also prevents vapor and moisture intrusion, and it helps insulate the crawl space. A dehumidifier also was installed to clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, and reduce odors. The compact dehumidifier is ideal for tight crawl spaces, and it is powerful and energy-efficient.
The section with failing supports was replaced by IntelliJacks installed to support a new steel support beam. These heavy-duty supports are designed to stop settlement, but can easily be adjusted if any settlement occurs.
The homeowner was excited to have these various repairs completed so her crawl space, as well as the rest of her home, will be healthy and safe for many years to come.
