Homeowners in Westerville, OH, have lived in their house since it was built 47 years ago. During the last several years, they have been keeping an eye on an exterior structural issue that only seemed to be getting worse.
Part of the home’s basement walk-out area included a retaining wall. This wall was showing signs of failure in the form of various cracks. It also was slightly tilting inward. The homeowners were worried the retaining wall would eventually collapse, thus affecting the home’s structural stability and appearance.
The homeowners plan to sell the house in the near future, so they wanted to make sure this problem would not affect the home’s safety and resale value. After seeing some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, the owners wanted to contact us for assistance with their repair needs.
The homeowners met with one of our inspectors who completed a thorough evaluation of the failing retaining wall. He then presented the homeowner with the perfect permanent solution.
One of our crews then worked to stabilize the retaining wall. First, they excavated the area outside of the retaining wall down to the footer. Then they pushed the bowing wall back to as plumb as possible. To further ensure the retaining wall’s structural integrity, two Wall Anchors were installed.
These durable, galvanized steel anchors not only reinforce the wall, their unique design also allows them to be tightened for wall improvement. The visible anchor plates also were concealed by wall anchor covers.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing this repair has helped create a safer living environment.
