Waterproofing and Repairing a Leaking Crawl Space in Sugar Grove, OH

Tuesday, June 13th, 2017

Challenge

After recently moving into their house, new homeowners in Sugar Grove, OH, wanted to fix up the older home through various improvement and repair projects. They were prepared to take on the kitchen and other areas of the home, but they did not expect to have problems underneath the house that needed to be addressed.

The home’s crawl space was an unhealthy, flooding area that also was affecting the health of the rest of the house. The owners noticed the furnace was located in the crawl space, and they were afraid it could be severely damaged if they neglected the nasty condition of the crawl space.

The homeowners were unsure how to properly address the crawl space. But after discussing their situation with a trusted friend who had her basement waterproofed by Ohio Basement Authority, the homeowners knew they could count on us for a reliable solution.

They met with one of our inspectors who assessed the crawl space and presented them with several options that would repair and transform the nasty crawl space.

Solution

The homeowners were eager for one of our crews, led by Foreman Jose De Jesus Tellez Ortiz, to waterproof the crawl space with solutions like the CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri sump pump. The CrawlDrain system will catch any water that seeps into the crawl space and direct it to the SafeDri sump pump. Along with a powerful pump inside the sump liner, the SafeDri system also features and external backup battery that ensures the system will always operate to pump water out of the crawl space.

After drainage matting was placed on the crawl space floor, the crawl space was then encapsulated with CrawlSeal liner. Similar to swimming pool liner, CrawlSeal is thick and durable, and it completely isolates the crawl space from the earth. CrawlSeal also acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it helps insulate the crawl space.

Additional installations included a FreezeGuard that was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line, and a dehumidifier that was placed in the crawl space. The compact model is energy efficient, and it works to control moisture and humidity, clean and filter the air, and reduce odors and the potential for mold and mildew growth.

The homeowners can rest easier now that these reliable repairs have been completed to create a healthier and safer crawl space and home.
