During the almost 30 years that they have lived in their house, homeowners in Mount Gilead, OH, have been monitoring the condition of their foundation walls. Since moving into the house, they noticed cracks on two of the walls were starting to increase and worsen.
The owners currently use the basement for storage, but they would also like to spruce the area up so their grandchildren can have their own play area in the house. Before doing so, they wanted to make sure the basement, as well as the rest of the house, would be safe and stable.
While talking about these issues with trusted friends, their friends suggested they contact Ohio Basement Authority for assistance. After doing so, the homeowners met with one of our inspectors who evaluated the foundation. Along with cracks in various patterns, our inspector also pointed out one of the walls was slightly tilting inward. This wall featured previous stabilization attempts with steel and wooden beams, but it was obtrusive and failing to properly support the walls.
Our inspector then recommended having one of our crews permanently stabilize the walls with a couple of our reliable foundation repair methods.
The crew, led by Ryan Toledo, first excavated the area outside of one of the problematic foundation walls down to the footer. Then they pushed this wall back to as plumb as possible.
The next step involved placing several Carbon Fiber supports on this wall and the adjacent cracking foundation wall. These sturdy supports permanently stabilize the walls where they are installed. They also prevent any further cracking or inward bowing. Carbon Fiber straps may not be the most attractive, but these durable, low-profile supports can easily be concealed with paint, drywall or other materials.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing their forever home will be a safer and more stable living environment because of these reliable repairs.
