Failing Retaining Wall in Centerburg, OH, is Stabilized and Straightened by Wall Anchors

Monday, July 3rd, 2017 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

After living in his house for 13 years, a homeowner in Centerburg, OH, was ready to sell his house. Before putting the house on the market, he knew he needed to have various repair projects completed around the house. This included addressing a problem on the home’s exterior.

During the last year, the homeowner began to notice the retaining wall just outside the walk-out basement access area was cracking and slightly tilting. These are indications that the wall was failing. If neglected any longer, the retaining wall could eventually fail completely and collapse. The current condition of the retaining wall also could have a negative impact on the resale value of the house, as well as the owner’s ability to sell the home.

The owner wanted to fix this problem right away. After seeing Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, he was motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help him. He met with one of our inspectors who assessed the condition of the retaining wall. Our inspector then presented the homeowner with one of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

Solution

Ryan Toledo led his crew in installing two Wall Anchors and one Channel Anchor on the failing retaining wall. These heavy-duty anchors permanently stabilize the wall and offer the best opportunity to straighten the wall because of their unique design.

First, a trench was created far enough away from the retaining wall in order to install the earth anchors that are part of the system. Small holes are then drilled through the retaining wall. Galvanized steel rods are driven out and earth anchors are installed and attached to the rods. Once the earth anchors are attached to the exterior portions of the rods, wall plates are attached to seat the earth anchors.

The homeowner was pleased this reliable repair solution was used to help create a safer home for the next owners, as well as enhance the home’s value.
