A homeowner in Pickerington, OH, has lived in his house since it was built 14 years ago. In recent years, he has noticed a potential structural issue only getting worse. The exterior block foundation wall underneath the home’s front porch was cracking and seemed to be separating from the rest of the structure.
The cracking patterns and gaps indicated the porch was settling, which greatly concerned the homeowner. He wanted to ensure the stability of the porch and home, as well as the home’s resale value should he decide to sell the house in the near future.
The homeowner was motivated to contact Ohio Basement Authority after seeing our TV ads, and he was eager to meet with inspector John Dean. John evaluated the condition of the settling porch foundation, and he then recommended having one of our crews install one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.
Foreman Ryan Toledo led his crew in installing three Helical Piers underneath the porch foundation.
This involved first excavating the soil and digging down to the footer of the porch foundation. In order to gain access to the right side of the work area, the crew had to be very careful around a gas line that was close to the home. Instead of using an excavator, the crew took great care to hand-dig this section.
Once the footing was exposed, heavy-duty brackets were attached to the footing so the Helical Piers could be driven into the soil. These durable steel piers are installed to the appropriate depth and capacity to permanently stabilize the porch, lift it back to level and prevent future foundation settlement.
The homeowner was pleased this trustworthy repair solution was installed to help him create a safer living environment.
