Fixing and Protecting Failing Foundation Walls in Circleville, OH, with the IntelliBrace System

Challenge

While it is important to monitor issues throughout the home including potential structural problems, it is even more crucial to know when to take action. You don’t want to ignore something like a failing foundation wall only to have the wall collapse and affect the structural integrity of the rest of the house.

Homeowners in Circleville, OH, have lived in their house for 20 years. During the last few years they have been keeping an eye on areas of the foundation walls that were cracking and appeared to be tilting inward. The cracks only continued to grow, and the walls showed more signs of deflection.

The owners plan to live in the house for many years, so they wanted to address these issues to prevent any further damage. As they discussed these problems with friends and loved ones, trusted friends were eager to refer them to Ohio Basement Authority based on their positive foundation repair experience with us.

The homeowners were eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with Inspector Brendan Kent who assessed the condition of the foundation walls. He then presented the owners with a repair option that involved installing one of our many reliable types of foundation repair solutions.

Solution

Foreman Rich Pomales led his crew in installing many IntelliBrace beams throughout the basement. These heavy-duty beams permanently reinforce the walls and protect them from any further cracking or bowing.

IntelliBrace beams may look like typical metal support beams commonly used by contractors in repair projects, but they are superior in several ways. Regular I-beams will rust and deteriorate over time, but IntelliBrace beams are zinc-coated to resist corrosion and damage.

There is a special method to installing these beams, as well. The top of the beams are first secured to the floor joists and then plumbed against the wall as level as possible. The bottoms of the beams are then anchored to the floor. The large-diameter bolt at the top of the wall can be adjusted and tightened to potentially improve the wall’s condition and help straighten the wall.

One of the foundation walls was cracking, but not bowing, and Rich suggested being proactive by installing additional IntelliBrace beams to protect this wall. The homeowners agreed, and they now have peace of mind knowing their forever home will be a safer living environment because of this reliable repair solution.
