Permanently Waterproofing and Old, Leaking Basement in Marion, OH

Challenge

It’s one thing to lose items by misplacing them, but it is quite another to sacrifice your belongings to unhealthy conditions. While no one can control the weather, we can control how it affects our living environments.

Homeowners in Marion, OH, have lived in their house for 17 years. The home was starting to show its age now that it is pushing 100 years old. The homeowners recently began to notice water seeping inside the basement during periods of rain. This resulted in minor puddling, streams across the floor, and even a backup of the floor drain that caused almost six inches of water to flood the basement.

The homeowners wanted a dry space to use for storage, and they were frustrated by already having to throw away damaged clothes and CDs. They wanted to prevent any further problems, so they began to research how to best address these issues. They contacted Ohio Basement Authority after coming across our listing on resources like Home Advisor. They then met with one of our inspectors who evaluated the condition of the leaking basement. Our inspector then presented the homeowners with some of our reliable basement waterproofing solutions.

Solution

The homeowners were equally eager for one of our crews to install these products that included the BasementGutter interior drainage system and SafeDri sump pump.

The basement’s perimeter was excavated so the BasementGutter system could sit in the sub-floor and out of the “mud zone.” BasementGutter is specially designed to accept water from the walls and floor. Any water intercepted by BasementGutter is then directed to the SafeDri. The SafeDri system features two powerful pumps inside its liner, as well as an external backup battery. This ensures the system will always work to pump water out of the basement, even if the power goes out. We installed the SafeDri system in the larger SafeDri Triple liner to allow for easy future upgrades.

We also used exterior waterproofing measures. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line to allow water to continue to escape from the line if it freezes or becomes blocked. This discharge line also was tied into new downspout conductor lines that were installed on the property.

The homeowners no longer have to worry about their basement flooding every time it rains. They now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy solutions have helped them create a safer living environment.
