After living in his house for six years, a homeowner in Marion, OH, knew he needed to do something about the crawl space. This area under the house was full of debris, failing insulation and liner, and even standing water.
The homeowner was concerned these conditions could affect the rest of his house. This is exactly the case because of the stack effect. Air in the crawl space is drawn up through the house in an airflow pattern from bottom to top, so anything in the crawl space also is the home and impacting the rest of the living environment.
The homeowner knew he could count on Ohio Basement Authority to address these issues with the perfect solutions, as he was acquainted with one of our service technicians, Erin Carnahan. Erin completed a thorough evaluation of the crawl space and then recommended some of our reliable repair solutions.
One of our crews then transformed the nasty crawl space into a healthy area.
After removing the debris and other nuisances, the CrawlDrain drainage system was installed in the crawl space floor. This system is specially designed to accept water from the floor and walls, and then lead it to the SafeDri sump pump. Along with two pumps inside the liner, the SafeDri features an external backup battery. This battery ensures the system’s continued operation in pumping water out of the crawl space even if the power goes out.
Drainage matting was placed on the crawl space floor to help direct water to the CrawlDrain system, as well as enhance the durability of the encapsulation material. The crawl space was then sealed with CrawlSeal liner. CrawlSeal is similar to swimming pool liner, and it completely isolates the crawl space and home from the earth. This liner also acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it helps insulate the crawl space.
Additionally, a dehumidifier was installed in the crawl space to clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, and help prevent mold and reduce odors. Several vent covers were placed on the home’s exterior to further seal the crawl space from outside nuisances. The access well also was added to the home’s exterior as a secure access point.
The homeowner is happy to now have a healthier crawl space and home because of these trustworthy repairs.
