Lifting Failing Walls in Nashport, OH, With Helical Piers and Reinforcing Them With Carbon Fiber

Monday, August 14th, 2017 by Holly Richards-Purpura

Challenge

After living in their house for almost 20 years, homeowners in Nashport, OH, were motivated to finally tackle fixing structural problems that were only getting worse. Two parallel walls in their attached garage were visibly cracking. A few areas also were tilting, and another was possibly settling. They could tell the latter issue was happening because they could see daylight through one of the cracks.

These problems were concerning to the homeowners not only regarding the structural stability of their home, but the value of the house should they decide to sell it. They didn’t want to see any more damage occur, so they started to look into how to fix these problems.

They found information about Ohio Basement Authority online, and they were eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with one of our inspectors who assessed the condition of the walls. He then recommended some of our reliable foundation repair solutions.

Solution

One of our crews then installed several Helical Piers underneath the problematic foundation walls. These galvanized steel piers are driven down to competent soil and attached to heavy-duty foundation brackets on the home’s footing. The piers permanently stabilize the foundation, help prevent any further settlement, and offer the best opportunity to lift the wall back to level.

While these piers were crucial for the more severely damaged wall, they also were installed underneath the parallel wall that was not in as much disrepair. The piers help protect the wall from falling victim to the same damage the other wall sustained.

Several Carbon Fiber supports also were placed on the wall that was more damaged. These durable supports firmly adhere to the wall to stabilize it in its current position. They also help protect the wall from any further cracking or bowing. The homeowners were excited to see that the Carbon Fiber straps did not protrude from the wall, but were flat against it.

The owners are pleased these trustworthy solutions were installed to help them create a structurally sound living environment.
