Homeowners in Patriot, OH, were excited to move into their newly built home. As they began to move their belongings into the house and make the space their own, they started to investigate all the nooks and crannies of the home. After peeking into the crawl space, they realized this area under the house was full of problems.
The dirt crawl space had failing insulation and lining on the floor, debris was strewn about the space, and the many open vents were allowing precipitation, pests, and outside air into the crawl space.
Even with new homes, builders make the mistake of allowing dirt crawl spaces to be under homes, and for these areas to be vented. This only invites problems into the crawl space, as well as the rest of the house. Whatever is in the crawl space also affects the condition of the living environment above. This is because of the stack effect that draws vented crawl space air up to the rest of the house.
The homeowners wanted to make sure their new house was protected. As they began to investigate how to address the issues in their crawl space, they saw some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads. They were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. After meeting with one of our inspectors, the owners were eager for one of our crews to transform the crawl space.
We encapsulated the crawl space in CrawlSeal liner. This thick and durable liner completely seals the crawl space and isolates it from the earth. It also acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it helps to insulate the crawl space. We placed exterior covers on the vents to further seal the area, and several IntelliJacks were installed to reinforce a support beam and the above floor joists.
The homeowners can rest easier knowing these reliable repairs have helped them create a safer and healthier living environment.
