It was easy for new homeowners to fall in love with a more than 100-year-old house in Galena, OH. What they didn’t count on was a problematic crawl space adjacent to the basement. This area leaked whenever it rained, and it was not properly sealed or insulated.
The owners plan to live in this house for the foreseeable future. They wanted to make sure it would be a safe and healthy living environment. They wanted to address the problems in the crawl space right away, They were motivated to seek assistance from Ohio Basement Authority after visiting our booth and staff at a local home show.
The owners then met with one of our inspectors who completed a thorough evaluation of the crawl space. Our inspector then recommended the perfect solutions to improve the health and appearance of the crawl space.
Nate Klingenberger and his crew then transformed the crawl space by waterproofing it with the CrawlDrain drainage system, SafeDri Pro sump pump and dehumidifier. The crawl space also was encapsulated with Crawlseal liner and insulated with ExTremeBloc panels on the walls and spray foam in the band joists.
Additionally, the basement’s sump pump system was upgraded to the SafeDri Battery Backup system, and FreezeGuards were attached to the exterior sump pump discharge lines.
The homeowners are happy to now have a healthier crawl space, as well as a healthier home that they will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
