After living in their house for several years, homeowners in Dublin, OH, decided to transition their basement from a storage area into livable space. Before doing so, the owners knew they needed to make some upgrades.
The International Residential Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings states, “Basements, habitable attics, and every sleeping room shall have at least one operable emergency escape and rescue opening." The answer is to have an egress window installed.
As the owners began to research the next step, they found information about Ohio Basement Authority through online resources like Home Advisor. They were eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help them, as well as meet with one of our inspectors. After visiting and confirming the necessity of the egress window, our inspector discussed the installation process with the owners.
One of our crews then took great care to install the new egress window system. The homeowners are pleased this project was completed to enhance the safety of their home.
