Even though he lives in Connecticut, a homeowner maintains a vacation home near his mother in Rockbridge, OH. He knew he could count on our company to deliver permanent solutions for his Ohio property.
Along with installing several basement waterproofing products to always keep his home dry – including the BasementGutter and French drainage systems, SafeDri Triple sump pump, and exterior FreezeGuard and YardWell attachments – we installed an egress window.
The basement had smaller windows that did not let in much light and were not ideal emergency exits. According to the International Residential Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings, “Basements, habitable attics, and every sleeping room shall have at least one operable emergency escape or rescue opening.”
After removing an existing window, one of our repair crews excavated the area outside the window and carefully cut into the block foundation wall to make room for the newer, bigger window. The all-vinyl frame of the new window is rust-resistant, and the window’s double-pane glass is energy-efficient. A lightly-colored window well installed outside the window allows more sunlight to enter the basement and brighten up the space. A durable clear cover attached to the well for safety also keeps leaves, debris and precipitation out of the window well.
The homeowner is pleased to have an updated basement window system that enhances safety and appearance.
