Homeowners in Orient, OH, have lived in their house since it was built 30 years ago. During that time, they stayed away from the crawl space underneath the house. Any time they tried to venture into what appeared to be a nasty and unhealthy area, the rough gravel floor made it difficult to maneuver around.
The owners put this area of their home on the back burner, but they couldn’t help but wonder if it was affecting the health of their home and their well-being. They noticed problems with moisture and dampness on the above floors, and they also were concerned with asthma and allergy issues. Because the owners plan to live in the house for the foreseeable future, they wanted to address these problems once and for all.
After seeing some of Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, the owners were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with one of our expert inspectors, and he completed a thorough evaluation of the crawl space. He pointed out that the vented crawl space was taking on seeping water and showed visible signs of water damage and moisture. He then recommended some of our trustworthy crawl space repair solutions.
We installed the CrawlDrain drainage system in the crawl space floor, as well as the SafeDri sump pump, to waterproof the crawl space. Any seeping water will be intercepted by the CrawlDrain system and directed to the SafeDri to be pumped out of the basement. A FreezeGuard also was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line.
The crawl space was then encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. Similar to swimming pool liner, the thick and durable CrawlSeal liner completely seals the crawl space and isolates it from the earth. It serves as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it also helps insulate the crawl space. Another insulation method we used was applying spray foam to the band joists. Additionally, several vent covers were placed on the home’s exterior to further seal the crawl space.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these trustworthy solutions have helped them create a safe and healthy forever home.
