Waterproofing and Encapsulation Projects Transform a Nasty Crawl Space in Upper Sandusky, OH

During the three years that they have lived in their house, homeowners in Upper Sandusky, OH, have rarely ventured into the crawl space underneath the house. However, once the owners recently peeked inside they noticed this was a nasty, unhealthy area.

The first things they noticed were that the crawl space was wet and smelly. There were areas of standing water that appeared to have seeped through the open vents. This water saturated and started to rot some of the wooden supports, and it contributed to high moisture and humidity in the area. The crawl space also lacked proper insulation and floor lining, and debris was strewn about the area.

The owners also wondered if these conditions were affecting the health of the rest of the home and the wellbeing of their family. They wanted to address these issues right away so their children would have a healthy place to grow up.

As they researched potential repairs, the owners came across information about Ohio Basement Authority online. They were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them, and they were eager to meet with one of our inspectors. The inspector completed a thorough evaluation of the crawl space, and he then presented the owners with our trustworthy repair solutions.

After taking great care in removing any debris and insulation from the crawl space, one of our crews began to transform the area by installing waterproofing solutions like the CrawlDrain drainage system and SafeDri sump pump. Any seeping water will be intercepted by the CrawlDrain system and directed to the sump to be pumped out of the crawl space. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line, and a YardWell outlet was placed at the end of the discharge line to camouflage the line in the yard.

Thick drainage matting was placed on the crawl space floor to assist with waterproofing and enhance the durability of the encapsulation material. The crawl space was then encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. This liner completely isolates the crawl space from the earth, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and helps insulate the crawl space. The crawl space was further insulated with ExTremeBloc panels that were placed on the walls.

Additionally, a dehumidifier was installed in the crawl space to clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, reduce odors and prevent mold growth. The crawl space was further sealed by placing vent covers over the vents, and the access door was installed as a more secure crawl space access point.

The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these solutions have helped them create safe and healthy crawl space and home.
