Using a gardening fork and trowel to loosen packed mulch so she could dig out pesky grass blades and roots, Tori Kohl felt like she was accomplishing something as part of a team in a community beautification project.
We Ohio Basement Authority marketing ladies – Tori, Jacalyn, and me – pitched in with the Tri-County Realty Association’s project during REALTOR® Care Day on Wednesday, June 5. Funded through the Columbus REALTORS® Foundation, this annual event gets central Ohio REALTORS®, affiliates, families and friends out volunteering their time to give back to their communities. This year’s 15th annual effort featured projects from more than 20 associations around central Ohio.
At Ohio Basement Authority, we not only help homeowners create healthier living environments, but we also firmly believe in returning the blessings we’ve been given by volunteering in the neighborhoods where we live and work. REALTOR® Care Day was a perfect fit for us.
Mother Nature had her own idea for the day, so early showers hampered the painting project. It was a wet ride as we made our way from Pataskala City Hall to Municipal Park, but the mid-morning rain stopped so our group could successfully complete a needed beautification project.
The mulch beds in the corner of one of the entrances were over-run with weeds and sprouts of grass, so we first worked to dig all of those out and start with a clean slate. Some of the volunteers dug trenches throughout the mulch bed, and then we arranged a variety of blooms to create a welcoming atmosphere.
It was rewarding to get out and get our hands dirty a little bit, all for a good cause. Several park visitors stopped to glance at our work, and they remarked how beautiful it looked.
Tori also put her own stamp on the mulch bed by creating a colorful corner with begonias and petunias.
“It felt really good to team up with a local realty association to give back to the community and help clean up the park! I really enjoyed meeting new people who were all working toward the same goal of helping others,” Tori said. “I’m looking forward to next year already!”
Jacalyn was eager to dig in and chat with new and familiar faces.
“Seeing realtors and other affiliates in the home industry come together for REALTOR® Care Day shows that we all care,” she said. “We care about the community, we care about the people, and we are there to support each other. It’s a great opportunity to give back and work alongside the individuals in real estate associations for REALTOR® Care Day!”
We appreciate the opportunity to be involved in this great event, and we’re eager to see what’s in store for the next one!
