Correcting a Wet Basement in Columbus, OH, for Future Owners

After recently acquiring a property in Columbus, OH, a representative of an area property management company wanted to be sure it would be safe and dry. The 65-year-old home had a wet basement, with evidence of water intrusion and damage through out the space. The existing sump pump system also was failing to keep up with the leaking water.

After working with Ohio Basement Authority on other repair projects, the representative knew he could count on us for the right solutions. He met with one of our inspectors who visited the property to complete a thorough evaluation of the problematic basement. Our inspector then recommended the perfect solutions to keep the basement dry.

Foreman Levi Fletcher and his crew then waterproofed the basement with the BasementGutter and SafeDri systems.

The basement’s perimeter was first excavated to install the BasementGutter interior drainage system. BasementGutter is specifically designed to sit in the sub-floor, on top of the footing, and out of the “mud zone” to accept seeping water from the walls and floor.

Water that is intercepted by this system is then directed to drain to the SafeDri Battery Backup system that was installed to replace the older, failing system. The SafeDri features two powerful pumps inside the liner, as well as an external backup battery. The latter ensures the system will continue to operate to pump water out of the basement, even during power outages.

Foreman Zach Phillips and his crew then handled the exterior drainage portion of the project. A FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line to prevent flooding if the line should freeze or become blocked. The exterior sump pump discharge line also was tied into a new downspout conductor line that was installed on the property and directed to drain at the street-side curb in front of the house.

The property management representative is pleased this trustworthy repair project was completed to ensure the health and safety of the home for the next owners.
