When they moved into their house more than three years ago, homeowners in Columbus, OH, intended to make it their forever home. Their basement currently serves as an area for storage and laundry, but they would like to fix it up and finish it to create a more functional space.
They recently noticed that some of the corners appeared to be wet, indicating a problem with water leaking into the basement. Before taking on the basement finishing project, the owners wanted to make sure the area would be free of water.
The owners heard about Ohio Basement Authority and were eager to contact us for further guidance. They met with Jeff Floit who visited to complete a thorough evaluation of the home. After discussing the owners goals with a repair project – keeping their whole basement dry all the time – Jeff then suggested the perfect basement waterproofing solutions.
One of our crews then installed the BasementGutter drainage system, SafeDri Battery Backup System and exterior Freeze Guard to keep the basement dry.
The basement’s perimeter was first excavated to create a trench for the BasementGutter system. BasementGutter is designed to sit in the sub-floor and atop the footing in order to accept seeping water from the walls and floor. Weep holes also were drilled into the bottom of the walls to allow any seeping or built-up water to be able to escape and flow into the BasementGutter system.
Any water intercepted by BasementGutter is then directed to drain into the SafeDri sump pump. Along with two powerful pumps inside the liner, the SafeDri also features an external backup battery. This battery ensures the system will always work to pump water out of the home, even during power outages. The system also was installed using the larger SafeDri Triple liner to allow for easy future upgrades.
Additionally, a FreezeGuard was attached to the exterior sump pump discharge line. This special perforated attachment allows the water being pumped out of the basement to continue to drain even if the discharge line freezes or becomes blocked. This line also was tied into an existing discharge line that drains at the street side curb.
The owners can confidently undertake the basement finishing project with peace of mind knowing these trustworthy solutions will keep the basement dry.
