Dry, shrinking soil can cause the structure to settle, and soft, wet, soil can result in a home “sinking” in the ground. The steps to each type of piering system are similar. Each process starts by the excavation of the soil outside the problematic foundation wall area to expose the footing and prepare it for a foundation bracket.
For the Helical Pier installation, the round-shaft piers – which are highly resistant to bending – are mechanically advanced into the soil. This is similar to using a screwdriver to tighten a screw into a wall. The piers are installed to appropriate depths and capacities to prevent future settlement. Heavy-duty foundation brackets are then connected to the Helical Piers and attached to the foundation’s footing. The weight of your home is then carefully transferred from the original unstable soils, through the piers, to competent soils or bedrock.
During the Push Pier installation, the second step is to secure the foundation bracket to the footing. Rugged steel tube sections are than hydraulically driven through the bracket to competent soils or bedrock. The weight of the home is then transferred to these load-bearing strata.
