Fixing and Protecting Cracking Foundation Walls in Zanesville, OH

A homeowner in Zanesville, OH, has lived in her house since it was built more than 40 years ago. She has been keeping an eye on a potential structural issue for 30 years, and she knew it was time to address it.

She noticed one of her foundation walls was starting to crack in various areas, and these cracks appeared to be worsening over time. She was worried the wall could eventually fail completely if she neglected it any longer, so she began to research potential repairs.

The owner contacted Ohio Basement Authority after finding information about our company on online resources like Home Advisor. She was eager to meet with one of our inspectors to learn more about how we could help her. Our inspector evaluated the condition of the problematic foundation wall, and he then recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

The homeowner was equally excited for one of our crews, led by Foreman Michael Gramly, to install several Carbon Fiber supports on the wall. Our inspector also pointed out similar cracking issues on the parallel wall, which also extended into the attached garage.

These durable supports permanently reinforce the foundation walls where they are installed, and they help protect the walls from any further cracking or inward bowing.

In order to install these supports, the crew first sands down sections of the walls where the strips will be installed. This ensures the wall will be clean so the Carbon Fiber strips can properly adhere to the wall. Holes are then knocked into the bottom courses of the concrete blocks along the path of the strips. Pieces of reinforcing steel, or rebar, are placed inside the holes to help anchor the walls. The holes are then sealed with concrete.

Small steel brackets are attached to the sill plate on top of the wall, also to help anchor the Carbon Fiber supports. Strong epoxy resin is then applied to the wall and the Carbon Fiber strips. Once the strips are in place, another coat of epoxy resin is applied to seal them against the wall.

The darkly-colored supports may not be the most attractive, but their low profile and durability allows them to be easily covered with finishing materials like paint, drywall or paneling.

The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing this trustworthy solution has helped her create a safer living environment.
